Every fabric begins life on a loom. Inspired by the craft of weaving, the nullum stool was created by allowing the ‘fruit of the loom’ to remain in the original environment in which it was crafted.
nullum comes as a DIY kit which includes all that one needs to create a personalized one-of-a-kind stool. The oak-wood stool base with the elements of a loom incorporated into it enables the owner to create his own fabric which, once completed, will serve as the seat.
Weaving is one of the most ancient crafts developed by mankind. Over time a variety of weaving techniques have evolved. While all that is needed to create fabric is a frame and some thread or twine, the beauty of the craft lies in both its simplicity and endless opportunities. Since the industrial revolution, we 21st century consumers are often unaware of how the products we use have been created. this fosters in us an inability to develop sentimental attachment. nullum is an attempt to deepen our connection and appreciation of craftsmanship.
nullum was displayed in the exhibit ‘musical chairs’ at the Wizo Haifa Academy in March–April, 2016.
